University of Melbourne – Smart Campus Energy Upgrades Program

Value  $10M annually

The Smart Campus Energy Upgrades (SCEU) Program, led by Broadleaf Projects in partnership with University of Melbourne Business Services, focuses on implementing energy efficiency and generation technologies in UoM buildings. The program has been developed over the past three years and covers ten workstreams including LEDs, building optimisation, solar PV, fume cupboards, electrification, energy storage
and building envelope improvements.

The SCEU offers an innovative and holistic approach to energy and carbon management, reducing UoM’s grid consumption and addressing challenges related to energy costs, market volatility and aging assets. As a large energy user, UoM’s commitment to SCEU is a vital step in achieving its climate change targets of carbon neutrality by 2025 and
climate positive status by 2030.

The viability of SCEU projects is based on four pillars: economic benefits (savings in energy, maintenance and obsolescence), carbon management (reducing operational carbon footprint), indoor environmental quality (improving user wellbeing and productivity) and serving as a living laboratory for teaching, learning and research collaboration. Broadleaf Projects and UoM collaborate with expert consultants for design and building energy modelling across all projects.
