University of Melbourne – Backlog Maintenance Program

Value  $10M annually

UoM’s Backlog Maintenance (BM) Program is a capital-funded initiative aimed at reducing liabilities across the university’s portfolio. The program encompasses 13 asset types with a total annual budget of $10M.

At the beginning of 2022, the Covid-19 pandemic meant very few BM projects were shovel-ready. As such, Broadleaf Projects developed a robust cashflow reporting process coupled with an aggressive schedule, utilising UoM’s Enterprise Portfolio Management System. This ensured the entire budget was utilised across a total of 39 projects. As of 30 April 2023, $3.42 million worth of works have been accomplished under the 2023 BM Program. In addition to program oversight, Broadleaf Projects are responsible for project managing the majority of BM projects.

As part of the 2023 BM Program, Broadleaf Projects are trialling the latest technology in condition assessment, including digital twins and drone photography, to collect, analyse and utilise data more efficiently.
