MPavilion Relocation and Installation

Value  $1.9M

The MPavilion (2019) was initiated and commissioned by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation with support from the City of Melbourne (CoM) and Victorian State Government through Creative Victoria. MPavilion 2019 was the sixth annual architect-designed summer pavilion, designed by influential Australian architect Glenn Murcutt AO, who is often referenced as Australia’s most famous architect (the only Australian recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, 2002).

Taking on a second life, the MPavilion was gifted by the Foundation to the University of Melbourne (UoM), Parkville. This unique commission commenced with the relocation and storage of the pavilion structure, before it was relocated to University Square (Carlton). The project involved a number of complexities, including the negotiation of license agreement (UoM & CoM – pavilion sited on Crown land), contaminated soil and installation of high-spec electrical (lighting) and AV.
